The Aena Group, which operates a global network of 65 airports and heliports across Spain, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, ended March 2025 on a high note. The group handled a total of 28.77 million passengers, marking a 4.3% increase compared to March 2024. Aircraft movements also rose to 249,502, up 3.9%, while cargo operations surged by 7.6%, reaching 126,889 tonnes.

Notably, this year’s March data does not reflect the typical Easter holiday surge, which occurred in April 2025—unlike the previous year when it fell in March—making the performance even more impressive.

First Quarter 2025 Overview
Between January and March 2025, Aena airports collectively welcomed 78.31 million passengers, a 4.9% rise over the same period last year. Aircraft movements totaled 695,281 (+4%), and cargo volumes reached 346,728 tonnes, representing 6.1% growth year-over-year.

Passenger Surge and Operational Milestones in Spain
The Spanish airport network within the Aena Group saw 23.82 million passengers in March alone, a 4.2% increase from March 2024. Aircraft movements jumped by 5.7% to 202,270, while freight volume rose 7.6% to 114,078 tonnes.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas: 5.5 million passengers (+3%)

Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat: 4.36 million (+1.8%)

Málaga-Costa del Sol: 1.9 million (+8.3%)

Palma de Mallorca: 1.55 million (+1.5%)

Gran Canaria: 1.49 million (+0.7%)

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández: 1.48 million (+16.4%)

Tenerife Sur: 1.38 million (+2.4%)

New all-time monthly passenger records were set at six major airports, including Gran Canaria, Tenerife Sur, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and La Palma. Additionally, 16 airports achieved their highest-ever passenger totals for any March in history.

March also marked the busiest month ever for flight activity at five Spanish airports and record operations across 13 locations, including Málaga, Alicante, and Córdoba.

For Q1 2025, Spanish airports saw 63.6 million passengers (+4.7%), 555,525 aircraft movements (+5.9%), and 309,070 tonnes of freight (+5.4%).

Growth at Aena Brasil Airports
Aena Brasil’s 17 airports handled 3.63 million passengers in March 2025, up 4.5% from the same month last year. Freight activity soared by 13.4% to 10,379 tonnes, although aircraft movements dipped by 5.2% to 36,880.

ANB Group (6 airports):

Total passengers: 1.32 million (+7%)

Recife Airport: 782,905 passengers (+4.2%)

Freight: 5,424 tonnes (+7.1%), with Recife alone handling 4,495 tonnes (+7.4%)

BOAB Group (11 airports):

Total passengers: 2.32 million (+3.1%)

Congonhas Airport: 1.96 million passengers (+2.2%)

Aircraft movements: 24,574 (-7.2%), including 17,710 at São Paulo (-10.9%)

For the first quarter, Aena Brasil recorded 11.07 million passengers (+5.3%), 110,929 aircraft movements (-4.3%), and 30,712 tonnes of cargo (+15.9%).

London Luton Airport Posts Strong Growth
In March 2025, London Luton Airport welcomed 1.32 million passengers, representing a 6.3% increase year-on-year. The airport handled 10,352 aircraft movements, a 4.2% gain from March 2024.

In the first quarter of the year, passenger numbers rose to 3.62 million (+7.3%), with 28,827 flight operations (+3.7%).
